Message from the Director
The Center for Disaster Medicine and Emergency Preparedness (CDMEP) was established in 2003 to marshal the many rich resources and expertise found throughout the Medical Center in order to contribute to this region's and our nation's counter-terrorism efforts.
The Center's activities are aligned with the University of Rochester Medical Center's academic missions:
Research, Education, Service and Outreach.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs. Read about our collaborations with other area academic institutions, including the Academic Health Center Consortium of Upstate New York, which was established in 2004 to facilitate communication and foster collaborations between URMC and its counterparts in Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo.
We look forward to hearing from you if you are an academic or industry representative interested in research and development of new technology to prevent, detect or respond to injuries incurred during an attack using Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosive weapons.
We would also like to hear from first responders, law enforcement and healthcare workers with questions, concerns or suggestions related to Emergency Preparedness, with regard to acute care of injuries caused by exposure to these agents, as well as naturally occurring disasters.
The Center sponsors a series of symposia throughout the year that feature nationally recognized experts speaking on theoretical and practical subjects that bring together government, academic and industry representatives as well as participants from hospitals, public health departments, first responders and emergency management organizations.
We hope you will find this website useful and informative.
With best regards, Glenn Currier, M.D., M.P.H.Director,
Center for Disaster Medicine
And Emergency Preparedness
